More than 40% of all cancers can be prevented. Cancer arises from one single cell which is then gets transformed from a normal cell into a tumor cell.
Now let’s put some light on WHAT IS CANCER?
Cancer is the Latin word for crab. Cancer is a disease of cells, which courses by the abnormal growth of cells. Cancer is of many types. It is a group of more than 100 different types wherein skin cancer is the most common type of cancer.
FACTS ABOUT CANCER
Lung Cancer(1.3 million deaths/year)
Stomach Cancer(1 million deaths/year)
Liver Cancer(662,000 deaths/year)
Colon Cancer(655,000 deaths/year)
Breast Cancer(502,000 deaths/year). Out of all, 40% of cancer can be prevented
CAUSES OF CANCER
The major causes of cancer are: tobacco, alcohol, diet, sexual and reproductive behavior, infectious agents, family history, occupation, environment and pollution.
80% to 90% cases of lung cancer occur by using tobacco and by smoking.
Excessive use of ALCOHOL is a risk factor in some cancers. Combination with tobacco increases the chances.
35% of cancer is caused due to dietary causes. Excessive intake of fat food increases the risk of cancer.
15% of the world's cancer deaths can be traced due to viruses, bacteria, or parasites.
Some cancers like breast, ovarian can repeat generation after generation in the same family.
1-2% of cancer can be caused by harmful radiation.
SYMPTOMS
Usual bleeding or discharge.
Persistent cough, hoarseness, or sore throat.
Some changes in bowel or bladder habits.
Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing.
A change in a wart or mole.
TREATMENTS
Cancer can be cured by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy or other methods depending upon the type and stage of the disease.

Cancer is one of those words that everyone dreads. There are various types of cancer and any type of cancer is really bad news. All types of cancer are life threatening (this is what makes them so dreadful). Even with all that medical advancement we still don’t have a complete cure for all types of cancer. However, there is continuous research going-on for finding better treatments for cancer and to increase our knowledge on cancer in general. Though there are treatments currently available for some types of cancer, these treatments work only if the cancer is discovered in early stages.
Types of cancer
Generally, cancer is named after the part of the body in which it originates. Most common types of cancer are breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Though, this might vary across geographies etc, these four types of cancer seem to be the more notorious ones. The other types of cancer include: cervical cancer, pancreatic cancer, bone cancer, brain cancer, skin cancer, stomach cancer, bladder cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer and testicular cancer. Besides this, cancer is also classified as primary and secondary based on whether it originated in that body part itself or spread from another body part.
Diagnosis of various types of cancer
It’s not just the treatment of various types of cancer that is difficult (or impossible) but also their detection (or diagnosis). In fact, correct and timely diagnosis is the first step towards treatment of any type of cancer. The earlier you are able to detect cancer, the more effective is its treatment.
Treatment of various types of cancer
Though the treatment of all types of cancers is not possible, some types of cancer can be treated if they are diagnosed early enough e.g. detection of malignancy when it has just started to develop. The treatment for cancer is carried out in many different ways. These range from surgery to radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biologic therapies. Hormone therapies are also gaining popularity for treatment of some types of cancer. Transplantation of bone marrow and many other new procedures for treatment of cancer are being constantly tried and analysed in order to get a fail-proof treatment for cancer.
Research on diagnosis on various types of cancer
The huge number of deaths that are caused every year by various types of cancer has lead to a lot of focus being put into the research on diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer. Meanwhile, we can just hope that there will soon be a complete cure available for the most common types of cancer (if not all types of cancer).

Have we discovered a cancer prevention vitamin? Are cancer prevention vitamins really possible? Is the cancer prevention vitamin here?
New studies show we just might have! Some forms of cancer may be preventable with the use of a cancer prevention vitamin. Hardly any family in the United States has NOT had a family member die because of cancer. This could change with the addition of this cancer prevention vitamin to our daily diets.
There are two studies that have been conducted using very sophisticated analysis which revealed that we are close to having a cancer prevention vitamin. Almost half of the cases of breast cancer and almost two thirds of colorectal cancer, in the United States, have been helped with what appears to be the cancer prevention vitamin, Vitamin D, (25-hydroxyvitamin D). T
he data from the breast cancer study showed individuals with the highest blood levels of 25(OH)D HAD the lowest risk factors for cancer. Wouldn’t it be great if we could prevent most breast cancers? The researchers for this cancer prevention vitamin divided the data from two studies into five equal groups from the lowest blood levels of 25(H)D to the highest level of 25(OH)D. The data showing whether or not the individuals developed cancer was also included with these studies. This is strong evidence that we are closer to developing a cancer prevention vitamin for breast cancer.
The cancer prevention vitamin data from the colorectal study was an analysis of five studies relating to 25(OH)D with risk of colon cancer. All these studies involved subjects with a risk of colon cancer and explored the association of blood levels of 25(OH)D. The levels were then checked 25 years later for the development of colorectal cancer.
According to one of the doctors involved in the study of the cancer prevention vitamin stated, “We project a two-thirds reduction in incidence with serum levels … which corresponds to a daily intake of 2,000 IU of vitamin D3. This would be best achieved with a combination of diet, supplements and 10 to 15 minutes per day in the sun."
We have several sources of vitamin D3 (possibly THE cancer prevention vitamin) in our daily routine. We get vitamin D3 through exposure of the skin to sunlight, or ultraviolet B, our diet, and with nutritional supplements. (It is important to note here that the researchers underscored the importance of limiting sun exposure such that the skin does not change color (tan) or burn.) If you are sensitivity to sunlight, or you or a personal or family has a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer, any amount of extra sun exposure would be inadvisable. Therefore a cancer prevention vitamin may be taken in higher dose for those how have this sensitivity. That cancer prevention vitamin is easily available in some vitamin supplements.
Analysis of the colorectal cancer study had shown that in 2006 that a low dose of vitamin D (cancer prevention vitamin) didn’t protect against colorectal cancer within seven years of follow-up. However, the researchers wrote, the analysis did show that a higher dose (of cancer prevention vitamin) may reduce its incidence.
